MEMORY: First bra fitting

I remember going into Victoria's Secret when I began sprouting...up top. I was probably 13 or so, can't really remember. But it was a wintery night and I was wearing 3 layers of clothing including a thick red fleece jacket. I was too embarrassed to take off my clothing and when the young saleswoman measured me with the pink VS measuring tape that hung around her neck, I felt so uncomfortable! The agony of the moment was amplified by the fact that it was right on the sales floor (not in a private dressing room) where all the other employees and shoppers could see. What's worse is that the naive saleswoman clearly was incompetent at measuring bra sizes/should have known that it's impossible to get an accurate measure when the customer has 3 winter layers on. Anyway, what's worse is that she said I was a 36A. Meaty around the middle with barely existent cups. Bah.

MEMORY: October 2010

Me: "I think I'm falling in love with you."
Him: "I am in love with you...madly in love."

memories

My close friend has been blogging about her memories in an effort not to forget them.  Her blog entries have inspired me to blog about my own instances that I either cannot or do not want to forget.

Overtime, memories become warped and start ebbing away from the memory catalogs of the brain. I also believe that photographs depicting the day or the event can often distort our memories. For example, a stressful day during childhood could be getting on stage during a piano recital and performing from memory in front of two hundred people including peers and parents. Memories preserving emotions from the day include feeling very nervous, anxious, yet optimistic about a flawless performance. However, one of the eager beaver parents at the recital hall suddenly affronts you with an order to "SAY CHEESE!" and a camera in your face. Now, ten years later as you thumb through pictures from that day, you may think that that piano recital was no big deal and that you must have been without a care in the world as evinced by your toothy grin. So in my opinion, dependent on the situation, pictures can either preserve memories or fuel dissolution of memories.

So here begins a pledge to try to document these special occasions and hard-to-forget instances.

Although my memories will probably end up being in random order, I'm going to try to blog about my most recent first and move backward through teenage-hood and toward childhood.

Another Year Older

I'm about to turn another year older. As usual, like all of my preceding years, this past year has been filled with ups and downs, but it's only worthwhile to remember the good. A year ago, I went to New York to see some of my dear friends and to reminisce about our carefree days as a quartet of girls living in the city. They were memorable days and nights filled with everything I love about the Big Apple: girl talk, afternoon tea parties, Tim Burton's exhibition at MoMa, strolls in Central Park, and braving the weather getting to Max Brenner's for chocolate fondue (gosh, remember that storm?)
Thank you Angela, Jen, Tomoko (in spirit) and Joanne for such a wonderful trip :) I miss you all.
After this amazing trip out East, I headed farther East to Shanghai where I set up house for nearly 6 months. I met driven and powerful individuals, made new friends, and got a taste of what long(er)-term life in China would be like.
I took a couple wonderful weekend getaways with some of the nicest people I've ever met.

State-side once more, I came back and began the next chapter of my life: getting my ducks aligned.  In other words, figuring out the future career-wise. In between hitting the books, meditating, and job searching, I started this blog as a positive digital diary. Oh, and one more thing about this year...
I fell in love for the first time. And he's nice.
